Changing Face of Axl Rose

The changing face of Axl Rose, over the years...

Let's face it, we all get older, and as we age, our appearance changes. For some, the change can be quite subtle, but for others, it can be a whole lot more dramatic.

In the case of Guns N' Roses singer, Axl Rose, it's been quite a dramatic evolution of change. Since his heydays in the late 80s and early 90s, Axl Rose's appearance has changed dramatically, to the point whereby today he looks unrecognisable.

Here, we look at the ever changing face of Axl Rose, and try to find the exact reasons why his appearance has altered so much...

If we go back to Axl's bandana wearing days in the late 80s, and early 90s, he is of slight build, with chiselled facial features, and a very natural look. You could say that Axl looked like your typical rock star.

It was well documented that Rose was doing hard drugs in the 80s, but by the 90s, it is thought that he came off the drugs, which would explain why he looked to fill out at tad during the Use Your Illusion tour from 1991-1993.

By the end of that tour, in 1993, and going into 1994, Axl looked slightly fuller in the face, with heavier facial hair stubble. But even then, the change wasn't overly dramatic.

Then, the controversial frontman left the spotlight for around six years, and sightings of him were few and far between. Some photos have come out of Axl in 1995 and in 1996, showing him looking fuller in the face, and slightly stockier in build.

Fast forward to a 1998 mug shot of Axl, after an altercation at an airport, and we see that his face is looking even fuller, and his hair has been cut short.

Then, by 2001, Axl looks unrecognisable. In came the hair braids (with a seemingly restored hairline), and a shinier, enhanced looking face. It's clear that Axl had some surgical work done on his face and hair during the 1990s, in an attempt to wind back the years.

Then, just a handful of years later, in 2006, Rose's appearance seemed to change again. This time, sporting a goatee, but looking much more natural than his previous look, and slimmer, too. Many fans believe Axl looked very good during this time, perhaps his best since the early 1990s.

Since then, after a years of subtle weight gain, filling out of the face, and thinning of the hair, Axl heads into his 60s looking much worse for wear. Age doesn't wait around for anyone, unfortunately, and after years of drug abuse, and surgeries, Axl's appearance has suffered for it.

Still, on the brighter side, Axl looks a lot happier, these days, which is more important than anything else, really.
