The Best Things About Turning 50

good things about turning 50

Turning 50 is quite the milestone, and although many see it as a bad thing, we're here to prove that racking up half a century is actually something to be happy and excited about.
Turning 50 is an exciting thing. It's a new chapter in one's life, and it's an age where one usually feels a more more settled in life, and more comfortable in their own skin.

Here, in no particular order, we run through some of the best things about hitting 50... feel free to add your own suggestions in the comments section below...

You're more confident

It's true. The older you get, the more confident you are in all passages of life. Turning 50 is a prime example of that. You've been through the most challenging times in your life, and so your confidence has grown. You're not afraid to laugh at yourself, or at others. Gone are the days you took yourself far too seriously.

You are comfortable

Gone are the days when materialistic, unmeaningful things mattered to you. You're not out to impress anyone at the tender age of 50. You have grown settled and comfortable in your own skin, ready to move forward into your new life chapter.

You appreciate things more

From the big to little things, you find yourself appreciating everything a whole lot more, whether it be family, career, lifestyle, anything... you're more content with it all, and you are able to step back, look at it, and appreciate it so much more than you did when you were in your 40s.

You know yourself

We grow wiser as we age, and many people refer to their 50s at the clearest period of their lives. When in our 30s and 40s, we seem obsessed with things that, looking back, seem so trivial as we enter our 50s. You'll know who you truly are, as a person, when you enter your 50s.

You don't care what others think

Being in your 40s, you might think you don't care what others think, but in reality, you probably do. When you are in your 50s, the chances are, you REALLY don't care what others think about you. You're more content at this point in your life.

You worry less

Generally speaking, we, as humans, worry the most when we are in our 30s and 40s. We worry about our careers, our family life, amongst other things. However, we worry a lot less when we reach our 50s. We're more settled by this point, and more comfortable in our chosen paths.

You're wiser

This doesn't need much explaining. The more life you live, the wiser you get. It's also very handy, because you have this natural ability to see through people's BS.

Less pressure

Being in your 50s, for most people, is a time when we begin to settle. The career ladder isn't as important or as hectic as it used to be, and all the pressures of life have been achieved (or at least attempted). Now is the time to settle and relax, with less pressure.

Retirement on the horizon

For some, approaching retirement makes them feel old, but we'd like to think the opposite. By 50, retirement is still a good ten to 15 years away, however, it gives you a good timescale and structure for the foreseeable future. That can be an exciting thing, and help you pace your life the way you want it.

You are physically attractive

People forget that 50 is still young. Many people feel most comfortable and confident when in their 50s, and with comfort and confidence comes attractiveness. e is nothing more attractive than someone who is confident in themselves, and assertive in life.

You are respected

Living longer means you are wiser and more experienced in everything. With that experience, people give your more respect and appreciation. You no longer give just opinions - now you tend to hand out facts, because you've lived through so much, and experienced a whole lot more.
