Sir Alex Ferguson's Flops: Worst Manchester United Team EVER

Even the most successful football managers make mistakes, and the very best of them is no exception. Sir Alex Ferguson may have won more trophies with Manchester United than most of us have had hot dinners, but heck, he made some pretty horrific signings along the way.

Here, Green Beans takes a look at some of the worst recruits that Sir Alex made during his 27 year spell at the club he made his own. We've knocked up our tragic 11 from the goalkeeper right through to the forward line. Enjoy, and do let us know if there are any ex United flops that we've missed...

Goalkeeper - Massimo Taibi

Replacing Peter Schmeichel is was never going to be an easy task, but Massimo Taibi seemed to be the answer...until that game against Southampton. The blundering keeper was sent back to Italy quicker than he arrived.

Defence - William Prunier

This Frenchman came through the same academy as Eric Cantona, but he didn't last long in a United shirt, especially after a 4-1 hammering they received at Tottenham.

Defence - Laurent Blanc

A great defender he was, and a world cup winner for France, but Laurent Blanc was brought in to replace Jaap Stam, of which he failed miserably. Well past his best.

Defence - Quinton Fortune

He wasn't a defender by nature, but Quinton Fortune eventually ended up there, and we all know what Fergie thinks of you if he slots you into the back line. Fortune wasn't the worst player for United, but he certainly wasn't the best.

Midfield - Jordi Cruyff

Trying to live up to your dad's achievements can never be an easy thing, especially if your surname is Cruyff. Jordi Cruyff fell well behind, and didn't last long at Old Trafford.

Midfield - Juan-Sebastian Veron

Bought for a then record £28m, Juan-Sebastian Veron was meant to be the star signing of the Premier League that year. It turned out he was everything but, and was eventually sold at half the price two years later to Chelsea, where his performances were even more horrific.

Midfield - Eric Djemba-Djemba

Eric Djemba-Djemba was an awful signing for Manchester United. He never held down a regular place and spent most of his time playing in the reserves.

Midfield - Kleberson

Would you believe Kleberson was a world cup winner? It seems hard to imagine, given his terrible displays in the red of United.

Forward - Diego Forlan

Diego Forlan seemed to take an absolute age to score his first goal for Manchester United, and when he did, there was no opening of the flood gates. Forlan eventually hit his stride in La Liga, and also excelled for his country in the 2010 word cup.

Forward - David Bellion

Purchased for his pace and finishing, David Bellion was set to be the next Thierry Henry. I think we can safely assume he never quite made those heights.

Forward Dong Fangzhuo

Apologies for this, but we really don't know who Dong Fangzhuo is. If any of you could shed some light on this player, we'd very much appreciate it.
