Celebrated every year on 17 August, today is the perfect excuse to pour yourself a cold glass of one of the world’s most distinctive fruit juices.

🍍 1. Pineapples aren't actually from Hawaii

Despite their famous association with Hawaii, pineapples are native to South America. They were eventually introduced to Hawaii, where large-scale pineapple production helped make the fruit famous around the world.

Fresh pineapple contains bromelain, an enzyme that breaks down proteins. That's why pineapple juice works surprisingly well in marinades for meat.

🍹 3. No pineapple juice, no Piña Colada

Pineapple juice is one of the essential ingredients in the Piña Colada, alongside coconut and rum. It's also a favourite ingredient in tropical punches, smoothies and mocktails.

💪 4. It's packed with Vitamin C

Pineapple juice is naturally rich in Vitamin C, making it considerably more nutritious than your average tropical-tasting fizzy drink.
