Most Shocking Murders: Chris Watts Family Murders

Chris Watts family murders

In the first part of our Most Shocking Murders feature, we take a look at a depressingly bizarre case that happened in the U.S. state of Colorado, back in 2018.

The Chris Watts family murders is probably the most famous family murder case in recent times, and one that has left many shocked and confused as to how this could have even happened.

After his pregnant wife and two young daughters disappeared on one August morning in 2018, Chris Watts gave television interviews pleading for their safe return. Many people, including police detectives, felt that something was amiss with his demeanor — and their hunch was absolutely right.

After constant probing by police, Watts finally caved and revealed everything. Authorities discovered that Watts strangled his wife, Shanann, and then smothered his young daughters Celeste, 3, and Bella, 4, before disposing of their bodies in an oil field, where he worked.
Watts buried his wife in a shallow grave, before disposing of his daughters in two oil tanks.

Prosecutors believe that his motive was that he wanted to be free to pursue an affair that he was having with his co-worker, Nichole Kessinger. Nine days before Watts killed his family, Kessinger spent more than two hours on Google searching for wedding dresses, however, despite suspicions, Kessinger was cleared of any wrongdoing.

Watts pleaded guilty to the murders to avoid the death penalty and was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. He has since given an extended interview in prison with the same detectives who he confessed his crimes to.

This case shocked the world, and has left so many people confused as to why this happened. Murder, in any form, is bad enough, but to kill your own children is just incomprehensible, and for the sake of another woman?  This case will probably never make any sense.
