10 Reasons Brits Love the Summer Season

What is it about summer season that the British love so much?

Summer only comes along once a year, but for us Brits, it can seem like once in a lifetime!  You just never quite know what you're going to get with the British weather, so any glimpse of sunshine is always hugely welcome.

One thing is for certain though, just about every Brit looks forward to the hotter months of the year, and most of us regard it as our favourite season.  The reasons for this are endless, but here are the top 10 reasons why British people love summer...

Holidays!

The majority of Brits book time off work during the summer season, the kids are off school, and holidays away are booked!  I mean, seriously, who doesn't love a hot break?  Be it home or abroad, a relaxing hot break is something we all need from time to time.

Music Festivals

No one quite enjoys a good music festival more than the British.  Glastonbury, Donnington, Leeds, and Reading are just some of the annual festivals that all offer the party-going Brits fun weekend away.

Wimbledon

For just two weeks a year, the whole of Britain are tennis fans. Sue Barker is the nations favourite auntie, and out come the strawberries and cream. You don't have to like tennis to like Wimbledon - it's more of a culture thing - it's just so very British.

Longer Days

There's just something magical about the longer days during the peak summer season.  It's been a long, hot day, and watching the sunset with a cold beer or wine, just closes off the day beautifully.  This is something that British people savour.

Barbecues!

Nothing beats a barbecue on a scorching hot summer's day. Sausages and burgers sizzling away on the grill, with friends and family all together, enjoying themselves well into the evening.

Fresh Food

Most of the best foods are actually in season during the hotter months of the year. Strawberries, cherries, grapes and watermelon, beautifully ripe like they only are in summer. Perfect for a fruit salad on a sunny day.

Outdoor Adventures

The hot weather always makes us want to do more outside, such as hiking, mountain-biking, going to the beach,  country-walks, big days out, and so on. The list of things to do in the summer really is endless...

Ice Cream

Who doesn't love ice cream on a hot summer day?  I mean, seriously, who doesn't?

Major Sporting Events

Whether it's the football world cup, European Championships, or the Olympics, major sporting events seem to bring the whole country together - especially when British representatives are involved.

Beer Gardens

It's no secret that most British people do enjoy a drink or two, and alcohol always seems to taste that much nicer in the hotter season. Nothing quite beats a few cold ciders in a nice pub garden, with the soft breeze and warm sunshine.
