The 10 Greatest Ever Premier League Winning Teams

Which team is the greatest in Premier League history?

English football has gone from strength to strength since the formation of the Premier League in the 1992-1993 season. We've seen the dominance of Sir Alex Ferguson's Manchester United teams, the flair of Arsene Wenger's Arsenal teams, and the emergence of Chelsea and Manchester City with their big money owners.

The Premier League is now the most lucrative football league in world football, and here, Green Beans takes a look back at some of the greatest title winning teams to grace English football since the early 90s.

Here's our top 10...

10  Leicester City  2016

We couldn't possibly have this sort of list without including the magnificent Leicester City side of 2016. Granted, they weren't the best title winning team of the bunch, but their achievement was certainly the greatest.

This team beat all the odds to claim their first ever Premier League crown, with a clever counter-attacking style of football that the opposition just couldn't cope with. It was a master-stroke by Claudio Ranieri, and one that will never be forgotten.

09  Chelsea  2006

Jose Mourinho's second season at Chelsea was almost as dominate as his first. With another huge haul of 91 points, Chelsea won the title with ease for the second year running. Solid at the back, and potent in attack, this Chelsea team only suffered five defeats on their way to lifting the trophy.

08  Blackburn Rovers  1995

Many of us forget just how good this Blackburn Rovers team was back in 1995. They had a solid spine with top players like Alan Shearer, Chris Sutton, Tim Sherwood, and Colin Hendry. Even a slight wobble towards the end of the campaign wouldn't stop them nipping United to the title by one single point on the very last day of the season.

07  Manchester United  1994

Manchester United have had some excellent teams over the Premier League years, and the class of 1994 was certainly one of their best.  This double winning team had a great balance of attacking flair with Cantona, Giggs, Hughes, and Kanchelskis, mixed in with the nitty gritty players like Keane, Pallister, and Ince.

United won the title comfortably that year, with an eight point margin over Blackburn rovers.

06  Arsenal  2004

'The Invincibles' would probably rank a lot higher for most people, but not us.  This Arsenal team were magnificent, and of course they were unbeaten that year too. They had players like Henry, Bergkamp, Vieira, and Pires, all playing at the very peak of their powers, but they weren't competing against the strongest field of teams that year, with Chelsea, United, and Liverpool, all going through transitional periods.

Arsenal finished the season 11 points clear of Chelsea, and this would be their last title win.

05  Manchester United  1999

Manchester United's treble winners of 1999 were simply untouchable at times, and it was perhaps one of the most remarkable seasons in the history of the game. The never-say-die attitude was immense, with last gasp winners in the FA Cup and Champions League, and in the league they were pretty gritty too, suffering only three defeats on their way to the title.

Beckham, Scholes, Giggs, and Keane formed the best midfield four that the Premier League has ever seen.  It was the perfect blend for the perfect result.

04  Manchester City  2018

With 100 points and 106 goals, this record breaking Manchester City side were simply formidable under the guidance of Pep. With De Brune and Silva pulling the strings in the centre of the park, players like Augero were having a field day every week.

This City team would have a strong case for top spot, and on any other given day, we'd have given it to them.

03  Arsenal  1998

They weren't invincible, but the Arsenal team of 1998 was definitely the best Gunners team to ever play in the Premier League.  Adams, Overmars, Petite, and Anelka gave this team a great spine, and they came back from a nine point deficit to snatch the title from a very strong Manchester United team.

We believe the league as a whole was far stronger in 1998 than it was in 2004, which makes this Arsenal team's achievement that much greater.

02  Manchester United  2008

Manchester United in 2008 was probably the best attacking team out of all the teams on this list.  They had four superstars leading the front line, in Berbatov, Rooney, Tevez, and Ronaldo. With Scholes, Anderson, Carrick and Giggs pulling the strings in the middle, along with Ferdinand, Vidic, and Evra at the back, it's a surprise this United team suffered any sort of defeat during that campaign.

United went on to win the Premier League and Champions League double that season.

01  Chelsea  2005

We've all got our opinions on what team should top this list, but for us it just HAS to be the Chelsea team of 2005. This was the season the 'Special One' came to town, and transformed the Blues into a formidable force.  This Chelsea team only suffered one defeat on the way to the title, scooping up 95 points - a massive 12 ahead of their closest rival, Arsenal.

With pace, power and precision, Mourinho instilled the best 'team unit' that English football had ever seen.  They were simply unstoppable that year, and that was probably the most difficult Premier League team to beat.
