The 10 most influential heavy rock bands of the 90s.

The years between 1990 and 2000 proved to be a golden generation for rock music, and we also got to see and hear the development of many different styles of sounds within the rock genre.  Here, we take a look at some of the most influential heavy rock bands to grace the stage in the 90s. Notable mentions should go to Link Park, System Of A Down, and Pantera, who all did not make the list.

10  Slipknot

It was founded by Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl as a one-man project following the dissolution of Nirvana after the death of Kurt Cobain. 05  Blink-182

This American rock band was formed in Poway, California in 1992. Since 2015, the lineup of the band has consisted of bassist and vocalist Mark Hoppus, drummer Travis Barker, and guitarist and vocalist Matt Skiba. 03  Metallica

Formed in the 80s, heavy rock band Metallica did something in the 90s that not many 80s rock bands managed to achieve so successfully - they altered their musical genre from their typical 80s thrash metal, to a more heavy, busty, darker tone. Even today, Metallica still manage to stay current and ever engaging with their fans.

02  Korn

Korn is an American band from Bakersfield, California, formed in 1993. Korn played a pivotal role in the development of rock music in the 90s, with the introduction of nu metal. Nu metal was one of the most important rock sounds of that particular decade, playing its part in the mainstream world too.

01  Nirvana

Nirvana changed the face of rock music in the 90s with the introduction of the grunge genre. Out went motorbikes and fuzzy long hair, and in came skateboards and beanie hats. Grunge was the coolest genre of rock music, and it paved the way for bands like Soundgarden and Bush to thrive. Nirvana were, without doubt, the most influential rock band in the 90s.
