10 Things We Absolutely Love About Halloween

With summer packed up and stored away for yet another year, the normality of life begins to set in, as the leaves begin to fall, and the weather gets a little chillier.

But it's not all bad. In fact, for many people, autumn is one of the best times of the year, and for Halloween enthusiasts, it's time to begin decorating and planning parties!  So, with Halloween a key staple in the autumn calendar, here's a list of our top ten favourite things about Halloween.

1. Decorations

Many of us usually associate bright lights and seasonal decorations with Christmas time, but we often forget that Halloween is also a time of year for decorations. The Halloween decor and unique garden displays add a mysterious atmosphere to the changing seasons. Spiders, spooks, ghouls, and all!

2. Horror Movies

Horror movies tend to be shown most nights leading up to Halloween, and even for those of us who don't like them, horror movies do have a habit of making a night in that much cosier. Of course, you can watch online, play DVD's, or buy boxed sets that have all of the good horror classics. Whatever your preference, October is the month where things really get creepy.

3. Sweets and Candy

Halloween offers us the perfect excuse to stuff our faces with unlimited amounts of sweets and chocolate. So, what's not to like about that? See it as a warm up for Christmas, which is just around the corner...

4. Christmas Build-up

As soon as Halloween ends, we head into November, and many of us are already thinking about Christmas. The build-up begins, and everyone starts to feel a little festive.

5. Party Time!

Get ready for a final fall fling! It's parties galore! School parties, club parties, home parties, nightclub parties. There's always something for kids and grown-ups to do. Hosting a Halloween party is part of the fun but get your invitations out early because there's lots of competition. If you miss the opportunity, an Indian Summer Party is your next best bet.

6. Shopping

No, not Christmas shopping. We mean shopping for Halloween costumes, props, and decorations. There's nothing better than a good shopping spree to get you into the full Halloween spirit. It might be slightly tacky, but heck, it's a whole lotta fun!

7. Trick or Treating

It wouldn't be Halloween with out trick-or-treating. It's a favourite tradition amongst children that allows them to show off their costumes and collect sweets and chocolate. Although the tradition is evolving due to safety concerns, there's still a chance that a little ghosts, goblins, or ghouls will show up on your doorstep if you leave the porch light on. Trick or treating is actually a great time of year for communities to bond, laugh, and get to know each other.

8. Fancy Dress

Dressing up is one of the most fun parts of Halloween, because who doesn't like getting to be someone else for a day? It also allows you to showcase your creative side.

9. Peak Autumn

Fall is just a beautiful season - perhaps the most beautiful of all four seasons. The falling of the leaves creates a stunning orange, red and yellow colouring, with lovely blue skies and a gentle chill in the air.  It's no wonder so many of us feel happy during this time of year.

10. Pumpkin Carving!

Carving pumpkins allow for endless possibilities; some people get really creative with their pumpkins, while others go for a classic Jack-o'-lantern. It doesn't matter how good or bad your pumpkin carving is, it's the fun of it all that makes it so appealing.
